The McMurray Métis had a successful, busy and exciting year filled with achievements as noted in the 2017 - 2018 Annual Report.

The year was historic as we were finally able to move into our new office not too far from our old site, which was destroyed by the Horse River wildfire in the spring of 2016. Our current home is only temporary until the Métis Cultural Center is built. Being back on our traditional grounds, also permitted us to once again host regular activities on our Métis land.

The content highlights from McMurray Métis 2017 - 2018 Annual Report include:

“The McMurray Métis number one concern is its members. We hold annual events like Métis Festival, Elders Christmas Celebration, Infinity Golf Tournament, and weekly events like Cree Chat, Beading and Elders Tea to collectedly unite our members together. Our Membership drive in February 2018, allowed us to increase participation to over 400 Métis community members in Wood Buffalo.”

-           Gail Gallupe, President, McMurray Métis.

“Hard work and dedication of the staff allowed us to escalate our activities over the year. We negotiated with the Government of Alberta on new policies for Harvesting and Métis Consultation under the leadership of Indigenous Relations Minister Richard Feehan. During the year we also increased regulatory discussions with Industry partners by signing new cooperation agreements and continued to work on our long-term vision and goals with a new Strategic Plan.”

-           Bill Loutitt, CEO, McMurray Métis.
