McMurray Métis President Gail Gallupe stated, “Our Annual Report summarizes what was an incredibly busy year as we continue to work hard to strive for the betterment of our community. I'm especially heartened by the increasing collaboration and cooperation with our Wood Buffalo Métis neighbours in Fort Chipewyan, Fort McKay, and Conklin as we work together to assert and defend Métis rights and promote economic opportunities.”

McMurray Métis Vice-President Bill Loutitt added, “With the election of a new Alberta Government, we'll continue to call on Alberta to recognize Fort McMurray as a historic and contemporary Métis community, to finally move forward with the development of a Métis Consultation Policy, and to ensure the appropriate level of financial support for regional stakeholder organizations."

Founded in 1987 and governed under the bylaws of the Métis Nation of Alberta by an elected Local Council, McMurray Métis is accountable to its membership with a mandate to pursue the advancement of the Métis people of Fort McMurray and northeastern Alberta. For more information please visit
