McMurray Métis are very pleased to announce that we will be hosting our 5th Annual Métis Festival on Friday, May 23, 2014 from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm. Free to the whole community, Métis Festival 2014 will be a full day of cultural entertainment with campfires, jigging, fiddling, games and traditional Métis cuisine.
This year’s event will feature award winning Métis artists, including; Inez Jasper, Sagkeeng’s Finest, Beverly Lambert, Jerry Sereda, Asham Stompers, Michael Audette & Lindsay Bart. According to McMurray Métis President James Richard Dragon, “Métis Festival is a once a year opportunity to celebrate Métis culture and history in Fort McMurray.”
Métis Festival 2014 has many new features, including a Storytelling Tipi, Artisan Market and Jigging Patio. This year we are also featuring Métis comedian Ryan McMahon at 4:00pm for a full hour of comedy. Creator of the Red Man Laughing Podcast, Ryan’s comedy has been featured on CBC Television and he is one of the top rising native comedians in North America. As well, on Saturday morning 10am at Holy Trinity High School McMurray Métis will be partnering with the Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo for a Multicultural Cookery class on Métis Cuisine.
Please be advised while this event takes place on the McMurray Métis grounds, parking will be at the Sawridge Inn & Conference Centre with shuttle service available. This will be a rain or shine event, so we advise that attendees dress comfortably for the occasion and the weather.
